DADAPOP //

You Can Call it Magic

“You Can Call It Magic” is the latest iteration from our local homies at Dada Pop.

Electro-Funk duo Sam Morrison and Noah Goldberg have a habit, albeit a good habit, of making exceptionally feel-good music, which personally I think keeps the world spinning and from toppling into the ether (shout out 2020, huh).

At first glance, “You Can Call It Magic” feels like an early Daft Punk song brimming with all the nostalgia. Clean synth pop paired with jumping dance beats, then Noah comes in with that young Luther Vandross voice; just save yourself the trouble and keep it on repeat. It’s a little different than the contemporary vibes you get from music nowadays,

This is just another example of the talent pouring out of the Dada Pop duo.

Seemingly happy, but somehow holding a satirical edge left to figure out yourself, keeping true their DADA ideals.

TRILLIVM //

Decolonizing Housemusic

Seattle-based electronic house artist Trillivm is definitely on to something. Trillivm’s album Decolonizing Housemusic is built of remixes stemming from songs that may sound familiar to you. House music BC (Before Covid) that previously felt exclusive to your favorite club has found new purpose, thrusting you off the couch and onto your feet.

Not only are the mixes hot fire, but my favorite parts are the self-affirming nuggets Trillivm leaves us such as, “Seee--I say for myself that I’m too busy looking at my screen, wondering if I stand a chance. Checking out every one of yous; trying to figure out: Who has the right answers? But we all do--”

Trillivm has taken a genre of music that already inherently lifts us onto our feet and elevated it to lift our spirits. Bits of self-affirmations become mantras, become real changes to how you view yourself in a seemingly toxic world.

Go check Trillivm on Spotify or  Soundcloud to start your days a little bit better. Highly recommended. -Dev
